The consequence of the defunding of school sports in the early 2000’s followed by the 2008 recession and subsequent reductions in parks and recreation budgets .  changed the landscape of youth sports. More affluent families have created a development and spending boom in youth sports, but far too many lower income kids are left out of the game.
